The benefits of hydrotherapy as a form of rehabilitation have been recognised by professionals for many years. More recently, veterinary surgeons and specialists have acknowledged the aquatic treadmill as an indispensable piece of specialist equipment when rehabilitating animals.
Using the natural properties of water (buoyancy, resistance and heat) the treadmill creates a low-impact workout that helps the dog increase in muscle strength and endurance. It allows dogs to begin the rehabilitation process earlier than normal, expediting transition to land based exercise.
The water depth and speed is adjusted for controlled weight-bearing exercise improving the dog's sensory awareness and stability. It allows us to create bespoke rehabilitation plans for each individual client, as no two cases are the same. The speed, duration and level of difficulty can be very precise. The Hydro Physio 200 also has an incline option, which is a very useful tool in canine rehabilitation.
The benefits include;
- Increased joint mobility and range of movement
- Improved circulation and cardiovascular output
- Muscle strengthening, maintainance and restoration
- Relief of pain, inflammation and stiffness
